President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has officially accepted the irrevocable resignation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago, as confirmed by Santiago himself on Monday.

He noted that the formal order will be released in the coming days, signaling the transition to new leadership within the bureau.

Santiago, who was appointed in June 2024, expressed gratitude to NBI personnel for their support and urged them to continue serving with integrity, despite stepping down amid concerns over persistent efforts to tarnish his reputation.

With Santiago’s departure, Assistant Director Angelito Magno is widely expected to be appointed as the new NBI Director.

Magno, a seasoned operative and lawyer, has served in various capacities within the bureau, including as Deputy Director for Investigative Services and head of the Information and Communications Technology Service.

His extensive experience in field operations and digital forensics positions him as a capable successor who can steer the agency through its current reform and modernization efforts.
