Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año

Inatasan na ang mga Philippine National Police (PNP) regional and provincial police offices at city and municipal stations na magtalaga ng Anti-Vote Buying Team.

Ito’y kasunod ng Memorandum Circular na inilabas ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año kung saan kanyang pinagana na ang Anti-Vote Buying Team sa bawat siyudad at probinsiya.

Layon ng nasabing team na tumanggap ng mga reklamo at imbestigahan ang napapaulat na kaso ng vote buying at vote selling alinsunod sa election laws, rules and regulations.

“This is a concrete effort of the DILG and PNP to support the Comelec and the interagency Task Force Kontra Bigay in ensuring a fraud-free election,” saad ng kalihim.

Binigyang-diin ng kalihim na ang mga reklamong mayroong ebidensya ay agad aaksiyunan at ipapasa sa Commission on Elections (COMELEC) na siyang may motu propio power.

Sinabi ni Sec. Ano sa mga regional police, city at provincial directors na dapat malaman ng publiko na existing ang Anti-Vote Buying Team.

Ang mga Police Regional Offices ang siyang magtitipon at magmomonitor sa estado at takbo ng mga reklamo na isinampa sa kanila.

Sa ilalim aniya ng Section 264 ng Omnibus Election Code, kabilang sa parusa na kahaharapin ng isang indibdwal sa pagbili at pagbenta ng boto ay pagkabilanggo ng nasa isang taon.

“The guilty party shall be sentenced to suffer disqualification to hold public office and deprivation of the right of suffrage. Any political party found guilty shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than P10,000, which shall be imposed upon such party after criminal action has been instituted win which their corresponding officials have been found guilty,” dagdag pa ni Sec. Ano.
