The ongoing decommissioning of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members has not disrupted the implementation of government programs, according to the Philippine Army.
In an exclusive interview with Star FM Cebu, Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala clarified the current status of MILF members who have yet to fully complete the decommissioning process, which involves surrendering their weapons.
While acknowledging certain challenges, he emphasized that these have not affected government operations or the Army’s initiatives, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
Col. Dema-ala noted that military units continue to engage with MILF members and maintain established protocols and contingency measures to ensure coordination on the ground. He stressed that preserving peace and order in vulnerable communities remains the top priority.
Meanwhile, he called on remaining members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) to abandon armed struggle and support the government’s peace-building efforts.
He underscored that genuine peace and progress cannot be achieved through violence and warfare.
“True peace and sustainable development cannot be achieved through violence,” he stated.
Despite ongoing challenges, Col. Dema-ala expressed appreciation for the government’s continued support of communities affected by armed conflict.
He concluded by emphasizing that unity and collaboration are essential to achieving lasting peace and inclusive progress across the nation.
