Kinumpirma ni Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles ang pagtatalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. kay Renato Solidum Jr. bilang kalihim ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Bilang geologist at pinuno ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs) ay naipakita umano ni Solidum ang kaniyang kakayahan.
“We confirm the appointment of Mr. Renato Umali Solidum Jr as Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology. He is a geologist who has worked with PhiVolcs and is currently Undersecretary of the DOST for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation,” wika ni Angeles.
Si Solidum ay nakakuha ng BS Geology degree sa University of the Philippines.
Nagtapos din siya ng M.Sc. in Geological Sciences sa University of Illinois sa Chicago.
Habang may Ph.D. rin ito sa Earth Sciences na nakamit niya sa Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego.
Nagsimula ang kaniyang career sa Phivolcs noong 1984 at naging director noong 2003.
Naging undersecretary naman siya sa DOST para sa Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) at Officer-In-Charge ng Phivolcs mula noong Marso 2017.
