Ipinamalaki ngayon ni DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones ang nakatakdang pagbubukas sa hinaharap ng National Academy of Sports (NAS).
Ayon sa kalihim ang akademya ay magbibigay ng full scholarships sa secondary education para sa mga talentadong Filipino student-athletes.
Ang campus ng National Academy of Sports ay nasa Capas, Tarlac kung saan kasama sa magiging pasilidad nito ay ang mga ginamit na world class at international standard na mga sports facilities at equipments.
Ang pagbubukas ng inaugural school year ay batay na Republic Act No. 11470.
Nagpaliwanag naman si National Academy of Sports Executive director Prof. Josephine Joy Reyes, doon sa mga nagnanais na maging future at legend ng Philippine athletics tulad nina Elma Muros at Lydia de Vega, ang sports academy ay magbibigay ng full scholarship sa pagpasok ng mga bata mula Grade 7, Junior High Schools hanggang Grade 12.
Bibigyan din ang mga sports scholars ng monthly stipend, free board and lodging at libre sa kanilang mga school at training uniforms.
“We are having a National Academy of Sports for those who want to take up sports not only as something they do as they are growing up, but also as a profession, as a way of learning more about the science of the body. The virtues of honesty and sportsmanship will also be developed at the NAS,” ani Sec. Briones.
