Kinumpirma ng Pentagon ang pagkakapatay kay General Qasem Soleimani, ang pinuno ng Revolutionary Guards’ elite Quds Force ng Iran.
Ito’y sa gitna ng isinagawang rocket attack sa airport ng Baghdad na siyang kabisera ng Iraq.
Ayon sa Pentagon o ang headquarters building ng Defense Department ng Amerika, ang naturang airstike ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni President Donald Trump upang mapigilan ang anumang planong pang-aatake ng Iran sa hinaharap.
“At the direction of the President, the US military has taken decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani,” bahagi ng statement ng Pentagon.
“This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans. The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.”
Samantala, maging ang Revolutionary Guards ng Iran ay inamin ang pagkamatay ni Gen. Soleimani dahil umano sa pagsalakay ng US helicopters.
