There is a new Ombudsman!

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla as the new Ombudsman.

Remulla’s intention to become Ombudsman had earlier stirred controversy and had been criticized by prominent individuals and politicians.

As recalled, Remulla said that his sole aim is to do good for society.

Included in the President’s shortlist for the Ombudsman post are:

  • Michael Aguinaldo (former Commission on Audit Chairperson)
  • Stephen Cruz (retired Court of Appeals Associate)
  • Samuel Gaerlan (Supreme Court Associate Justice)
  • Michael Frederick Musngi (Sandiganbayan Associate Justice)
  • Mario Lopez (retired Supreme Court Associate)
  • Anna Liza Logan (Deputy Executive Secretary)

Remulla succeeds the vacant post left by retired Ombudsman Samuel Martires
