Manila – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued Weather Advisory No. 3 warning of heavy rainfall in parts of Mindanao today, brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
According to PAGASA, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, and Sarangani may experience rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 100 mm, with mountainous and elevated areas possibly receiving even more. The weather bureau also cautioned that previous rainfall in some areas could worsen the impacts of the expected downpour.
Residents are urged to stay alert and coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices. PAGASA may issue localized Heavy Rainfall Warnings or Thunderstorm Advisories as needed.
PAGASA reminded the public of the distinction between weather advisories and heavy rainfall warnings. While weather advisories cover a broader area and longer time span (24 hours), heavy rainfall warnings are more localized, precise, and updated every three hours using Doppler radar – and are more suitable for making immediate decisions such as class or work suspensions.
The next advisory is expected at 11:00 AM today, unless significant changes in weather conditions occur earlier.
