Persistent heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across several key thoroughfares in Metro Manila on August 17, 2026, rendering several main avenues impassable to light vehicles and all types of transport.
In Manila, severe gutter-deep to tire-deep flooding was reported across major thoroughfares, with España Boulevard corner M. Dela Fuente Street measuring 24 inches and deemed not passable to any type of vehicle. Rizal Avenue corner Pampanga Street recorded knee-deep waters at 19 inches, while España Boulevard corner Antipolo Street, Abad Santos Avenue corner Yuseco Street, and Rizal Avenue corner Bambang Street were declared impassable to light vehicles.
Several other key stretches, including portions of Roxas Boulevard, Quirino Avenue, CM Recto Avenue, and Quezon Boulevard, recorded gutter-deep or half-gutter-deep flooding but remained passable to all types of vehicles.
In Quezon City, extreme flooding hit major thoroughfares, leaving A. Bonifacio Cloverleaf (Northbound and Southbound) and Araneta Avenue from Maria Clara to Florentino submerged in 26-inch tire-deep floodwaters, rendering them completely impassable to all vehicles. Knee-deep floodwaters at 19 inches brought traffic to a halt along N.S. Amoranto from G. Araneta Avenue to Sto. Domingo Avenue.
Additionally, several key areas were rendered impassable to light vehicles, including Araneta Avenue corner E. Rodriguez (NB/SB), Quezon Avenue near Capitol Medical Center, Quezon Avenue from Biak na Bato to D. Tuazon, and EDSA White Plains Northbound. Moderate gutter-deep flooding was recorded along EDSA North Avenue, EDSA Bansalangin, Commonwealth-Technohub, and East Avenue, where roads remained passable.
In Malabon City, waist-to-knee-deep waters disrupted commuting along key local roads, with Governor Pascual Avenue, F. Sevilla Boulevard, Barangay San Agustin, and C. Arellano in Ibaba declared impassable to light vehicles due to half-knee-deep flooding reaching up to 19 inches. Meanwhile, M.H. Del Pilar Street, Don Basilio Bautista, and parts of Barangay Santulan experienced half-gutter to gutter-deep flooding but remained open to traffic.
In Taguig City, floodwaters along Chino Roces Avenue subsided to gutter-deep (8 inches) as of 6:01 PM and are now passable to all types of vehicles.
In Mandaluyong City, EDSA Ortigas Service Road Southbound remained passable despite gutter-deep water, while in Marikina City, the Marcos Highway SM Marikina underloop recorded gutter-deep flooding but stayed passable.
In Makati City, Buendia Avenue from Washington Street to South Superhighway likewise remained passable to all vehicles despite 8-inch gutter-deep flooding.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Metrobase, together with local government units and emergency operation centers, has notified key officials and disaster risk reduction agencies to continuously monitor traffic, clear road obstructions, and assist affected motorists across the capital region.
