After four defeats since 2020, Deontay Wilder (43-4-1 draw) sets to fight Tyrrell Anthony Herndon (24-5, 15 KOs) on June 27, 2025 in Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, U.S. for a comeback with no title.
Wilder is not a heavyweight title holder today after the back to back loss.
Unfortunately, according to Eddie Hearns, promoter and chairman of Matchroom Sport, fighters are no longer afraid of Wilder unlike before.
“Again, we talk about fighters losing their way. There’s a great example. It’s funny how people can be so fearful of a fighter, and then all of a sudden, have no fear whatsoever,” Hearn exclaimed.
Hearns revealed that Wilder is overrated just like Tyson Fury and Antony Joshua.
It can be recalled that Hearns promoted Joshua, Canelo, Katie Taylor, and Oleksandr Usyk. plus Gennady Golovkin and Vasyl Lomachenko.
“It’s not a fight that I rule out, but people don’t give Wilder much shot against AJ right now, but hopefully, he can start looking good again,” Hearns answered when asked about the AJ vs Wilder forgotten clash.
Wilder lost to Fury last 2020 and their 2021 trilogy bout. He also lost to Joseph Parker in 2023. Last year Zhilei Zhang defeated him too.
“I don’t think anybody now would fear fighting Deontay Wilder, whereas at a point, everyone thought, ‘Oh my God, this guy is the biggest puncher in the history of the sport.’ Now, everyone wants to fight him,” Hearn added.
As of this writing there is no big fight yet for Wilder as Herndon is a little known boxer.
