LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has deployed an additional team in Bicol to closely monitor every meat products in the region.
This is in light with the recent incident were an increase in swine mortalities were recorded in Bulacan and Rizal provinces.
In an interview of Bombo Radyo, National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS)-Bicol director Dr. Alex Templonuevo said that the region’s role is very critical because this is where most of the meat products from Visayas and Mindanao are being transported.
Local products such as fish and meat are being transported in Matnog Port, Sorsogon.
Aside from the augmented team, continuous implementation of preventive precautionary measures in the regional office is being applied after caertain cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) were recorded in the city.
Shipment of meat products is expected to be canceled if failed to provide necessary documents.
