The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Cagayan Valley seized about 101,000 packs of suspected illicit cigarettes in Cauayan City, Isabela on June 25, 2026.

The confiscated goods were valued at P9,016,512.40.

The operation was led by OIC‑Regional Director Lorna Binarao, OIC‑Assistant Regional Director Reymarie De la Cruz, and Revenue District Officer Robertson Gazzingan with other BIR officials.

The Philippine National Police, headed by Police Colonels Rodrigo B. Soriano and Jerry O. Castillo, coordinated closely with the BIR, while Mayor Caesar S. Dy Jr. also joined the enforcement.

Authorities estimated the seized cigarettes carried tax liabilities of P81,178,702.93 in excise tax and P1,534,663.59 in VAT.

BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza praised the team and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to fight illicit tobacco trade and protect government revenues.

He emphasized that strong inter‑agency cooperation ensures violators are held accountable and taxpayers’ interests safeguarded.
