Amid all the controversies the Philippines faces for hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, the country were off to a splendid start as its dancesports team hauled 5 gold medals on the first day of the event. 

A back-to-back gold medals for dancesports were plucked by the duo Mark Jason Gayon and Mary Joy Reigen who topped the Waltz category with a score of 29.950 and 30.200 for single slow foxtrot.

Meanwhile, Aranar Sean Mischa and Nualla Ana Leonila Manalo secured the top spot in the WDSF SEA Games Standard Tango category and single dance Viennese waltz. 

As of this moment, the country has 8 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
