Pinayuhan ni House Senior Deputy Minority Leader at Northern Samar 1st District Paul Daza ang publiko na ilagay ang inflation figure sa tamang konteksto at huwag kunin ang istatistikang ito sa halaga para mas maunawaan ang mga implikasyon nito.
Ayon kay Daza, isang magandang balita para sa mga Pinoy consumer ang inilabas ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) ang pinakabagong Consumer Price Index (CPI) para sa buwan ng Agosto na nasa 6.3 %.
Una ng umalma ang publiko hinggil sa nakakagulat na presyo ng gasolina, mga bilihin, at pang-araw-araw na grocery item.
Sinabi ng mambabatas, ang headline inflation figure na ito ay mas mabagal kaysa sa 6.4% noong buwan ng Hulyo.
“On social media, there appears to be this widespread notion that there will soon be a reduction in the price of goods, and that marketing and grocery bills will now be lessened. We should temper our expectations, though, because a comparatively lower inflation rate does not necessarily mean that consumer prices will also decrease,” pahayag ni Rep. Daza.
Ipinunto ni Daza na ang inflation ay sumusukat sa rate of change in price levels na nangangahulugan na ang mas mababang rate ng inflation ay nagpapahiwatig lamang na ang mga presyo ay hindi tumataas nang mabilis kumpara sa nakaraang panahon.
Ang August rate na 6.3% ay saklaw ng Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) na 5.9 porsiyento hanggang 6.7 porsiyento para sa nasabing buwan.
“The BSP has already raised interest rates by 175 basis points this year, so I think they are doing their best to keep inflation within an optimal range that promotes growth, without substantially reducing the purchasing power of the peso.The priority now is to really look at other supply side policies, as well as finding functional ways to provide aid and assistance to our countrymen who are most saddled by the cost of goods,” wika ni Rep. Daza.
