In Southeast Asia, Philippines is the second most targeted nation for crypto phishing attacks in 2022, according to a survey by cybersecurity company Kaspersky.
Based on the information made public by the company on Tuesday, the number of crypto phishing assaults discovered in the nation increased by 169.93% to 24,737 in the previous year, trailing only Vietnam, which had 64,080 attacks.
Malware attacks were also discovered by the company, but they decreased by 54% from 34,010 in 2022 to 15,372, following trends in the majority of the area except for Singapore.
The statistics, according to Kaspersky, show that cybercriminals have shifted their focus to the cryptocurrency sector. An average of 400,000 new harmful files per day are reported, which represents an increase of 20,000 files per day since 2021.
Adrian Hia, general director of Kaspersky for Asia Pacific, claims that con artists are now employing “more sophisticated” methods of assault even as they continue to improve the functioning of malware and its distribution vectors.
