Inaprubahan nan ng Kamara ang panukalang batas na humihimok kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na payagan ang face-to-face classes sa Batanes, lalo pa at low-risk province na rin ito kung ituring dahil sa wala nang naitalang kaso ng COVID-19.
Sa resumption ng kanilang session kasunod ng isang buwang break, inaprubahan ng Kamara ang House Resolution NO. 1255, na humihimok kay Pangulong Duterte, sa pamamagitan ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) at Department of Education, na payagan ang physical classes sa Batanes.
Iginigiit dito na habang ipinapatupad ang distance learning bilang mode of instruction sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic, ang Batanes ay isa sa mga lugar sa bansa na walang sapat na internet connectivity, kaya hirap ang pagsasagawa ng online classes doon.
Bukod dito, ang Batanes ay idineklara at classified ng Department of Health at IATF bilang “very low-risk area,” at ang teacher-student ratio sa probinsya ay mababa lamang, kaya puwede talaga ang pagsasagawa ng face-to-face classes sa lugar.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved by the House of Representatives, to urge President Rodrigo Duterte, through the IATF and DepEd, to allow the conduct of ‘face-to-face’ classes in the Province of Batanes which is a low-risk and COVID-free province,” bahagi ng resolusyon na iniakda ni Batanes Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr. at House Committee on Basic Education and Culture chairman Roman Romulo.
