Suportado raw ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang target ng pamahalaan na gawing major international hub para sa crew change ng maritme vessels.
Sinabi ni BI Bay Service Section chief Alnazib Decampong, base sa report ng BI officers na nakadestino sa section, nakapagproseso ang mga ito ng kabuuang 112,220 seafarers na sumakay at bumamaba sa kanilang mga barko noong 2020.
Ayon kay Decampong sa naturang bilang 92,931 rito ang mga Pinoy habang 19,289 naman na banyaga na mayroong iba’t ibang nationality.
“Crew changes are vital to the international maritime industry as it affords sea vessels the opportunity to refresh their manpower. This is especially vital today amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” ani Decampong.
Una rito, lumalabas na ang Pilipinas ang pinakamalaking supplier ng seafarers sa maritime industry ng buong mundo.
Kung maalala, noong Hulyo lamang ay binuksan ng Pilipinas ang “green lane” para sa mga seafarers para mapabilis ang galaw at pagbiyahe ng mga sailors sa borders ng Asya.
“We assist in the implementation of the green lane for seafarers to ensure that they are accorded speedy and safe travel, subject to the health protocols mandated by the Philippine government,Seaport operations is vital for smooth economic exchange, and is vital to reinvigorate the country’s economy despite the ongoing pandemic,” dagdag ni Decampong.
Para naman kay Bureau of Immigration (BI) Jaime Morente, patuloy umano ang pag-usbong ng Pilipinas bilang major hub ng pagpapalit ng crew para sa mga international sea vessels.
Sinabi ni Morente na idineploy na nila ang mga immigration officers sa anim na port sa bansa na na-designate bilang crew change hubs partikular sa Manila, Bataan, Batangas, Subic, Cebu at Davao.
Kaugnay nito, welcome din umano sa BI ang hakbang ng Department of Transportation (DoTr) na magpatayo ng one-stop shops sa naturang mga ports para mapabilis ang crew changes.
Ang crew change na isinasagawa dito sa Pilipinas ay nakakadagdag din umano sa paglago ng ekonomiya ng bansa lalo na ngayong Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We also welcome the DOTr’s move to establish one-stop shops in these ports which would facilitate crew changes,” ani Morente.
