Inabsuwelto ng Sandiganbayan si dating Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri mula sa kaso nitong may kinalaman sa maanomalyang proyekto na umabot umano ng halos P1-bilyon.
Batay sa resolusyon ng 5th Division na may petsang June 13, nakasaad ang pag-apruba ng korte sa mosyon ni Echiverri na humamon sa mga ebidensyang ipinresenta ng prosekusyon sa kanyang kaso.
Bukod dito, inalis na rin ng Sandiganbayan ang bail bond at hold departure order na ipinataw sa kanya.
Nag-ugat ang kasong graft ni Echiverri matapos umano nitong paboran ang P. B. Grey Construction (PBGC) na humawak ng P4.9-milyong road and drainage project sa Bagong Silang.
Parte raw ang budget ng P979-milyong loan ng dating alkalde mula sa Land Bank of the Philippines para sana sa iba’t-ibang infrastructure project.
Abswelto rin sa kaso ang mga kapwa akusado ni Echiverri na sina dating city official Edna Centeno at Jesusa Garcia.
“Wherefore, the joint demurrer to evidence is hereby granted. Accused Enrico Echiverri, Edna Centeno and Jesusa Garcia are therefore acquitted of the crime of violation of Section 3(e) of RA No. 3019 for failure of the prosecution to establish their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.”
“Similarly, accused Edna Centeno and Jesusa Garcia are acquitted of the crime of falsification of public document.”
