Pinaiimbestigahan ni Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga ang educational performance ng Pilipinas matapos na makuha ng bansa ang pinakamababang ranggo sa 79 na bansa pagdating reading comprehension ayon sa survey kamakailan.
Sa House Resolution 626, nais ni Barzaga na maimbestigahan ng House Committee on Basic Education, Committee on Higher and Technical Edication, at iba pang mga komite ang kasalukuyang estado ng education sector, partikular na ang mga problema na nakakaapekto sa academic performance ng mga mag-aaral.
Tinukoy ni Barzaga ang resulta ng 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) na ginawa ng inter-government group Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Sa naturang pag-aaral, nakakuha ang mga Pilipinong mag-aaral ng mean na 340 points sa reading comprehension exam, mababang mababa sa OECD average na 487 points.
Dito natukoy din na ang Pilipinas ay pangalawa sa huli pagdating naman sa mathematics at science.
“This should serve as a wake-up call, and instill educational reforms in order to improve the quality of our education,” he said.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved… [that] the House of Representatives… conduct an investigation, in aid of legislation, into the educational performance of the Philippines, and a review of relevant existing laws,” ani Barzaga.
