Itinaas ngayon ang alert level sa Mayon volcano dahil daw sa hindi nito pagiging normal.
Ayon sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), mula sa dating Alert Level 0 o normal ay itinaas ito sa Alert Level 1 o low-level unrest.
“The public is reminded that entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ must be strictly avoided due to an increase in the chances of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruption, as well as the perennial hazards of rockfalls, avalanches and ash bursts at the summit area, that may occur without warning,” ayon sa Phivolcs.
Inabisuhan naman ng Phivolcs ang mga taong nakatira malapit sa bulkan na maging alerto.
Inalerto rin nila ang malapit sa active river channels malapit sa bulkan na maging mapagmatiyag dahil sa sediment-laden streamflows at lahar kapag nagkaroon ng malakas na pag-ulan.
Huling nag-alburuto at sumabog ang naturang bulkan noong 2018.
