Naniniwala ang World Health Organization (WHO) na nakatulong ang paghahanda ng mga bansa Asia-Pacific kaya mababa ang mortality rate ng rehiyon sa COVID-19, kumpara sa ibang rehiyon.

“Within the Asia-Pacific I think what we have seen is a very clear and early response to the virus which causes the pandemic,” ayon kay Dr. Babatunde Olowokure.

Paliwanag ng eksperto, marahil bunga ng 15-taong paggamit ng rehiyon sa stratehiya nito laban sa public health emergencies at mga nakakahawang sakit, kaya naman hindi lumobo ang total ng COVID-19 death cases sa buong Asia-Pacific.

Batay sa tala ng WHO, nasa higit 13,000 ang mortality cases ng coronavirus sa Western-Pacific kung saan pasok ang rehiyon.

“Member states also have built up their surveillance capacities, laboratories, and they’ve also built on their communication and community engagement.”

Ayon kay Dr. Olowokure, naging instrumento ang maagang paghahanda ng mga bansa at iba pang non-pharmaceutical interventions sa kontroladong pagbabantay ng rehiyon sa mga kaso ng COVID-19.

“Also the very good leadership in the region as well that has really helped along with the political commitment of our member states in order to ensure the safety of their populations.”
