Ayon kay So, ang kasunduan sa pagitan ng SINAG at NFA ay pakikinabangan ng 1.5 milyong lokal na magsasaka.
Sa ngayon ang buying price ng palay ay nasa 19 pesos hanggang 20 pesos kada kilo.
The National Food Authority (NFA) and the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) on Monday inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the purchase from local farmers of 7.5 billion kilograms of palay (unmilled rice) for P150 billion.
The agreement seeks to assist rice farmers from the rising cost of production by assuring them of higher farmgate prices of play from P19 to P20 per kilogram at a 14% moisture content.
SINAG chairperson Rosendo So said the agreement seeks to assure and encourage local farmers to continue planting, and provide a market for their produce.
Under the MOA, SINAG and other local millers will purchase 7.5 billion kilos or 7.5 million metric tons of palay this harvest season at P150 billion, reflecting over 90% of the projected palay harvest of eight billion kilograms.
