Nagsanib pwersa ang Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police (PNP) at Department of Tourism (DOT) para palakasin at paigtingin pa ang kampanya ng pamahalaan laban sa iligal na droga sa mga lugar na mayruong high influx ng mga turista at travelers.
Isang memorandum of agreement ang nilagdaan ng PDEA, PNP at DOT sa pangunguna nina PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva, PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos at DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, represented by USEC. Woodrow Maquiling, Jr.
Siniguro ng tatlong ahensiya na gagawin nila ang lahat para mapigilan ang paglaganap ng iligal na droga sa mga tourist destinations at sa mga lugar na pinupuntahan ng mga travelers o mga biyahero.
“We want to promote the Philippines as a tourism destination, hand in hand with the DOT, as this is good for bringing in much needed revenue and to create livelihood opportunities for our local communities, but we want to make it clear that recreational drug-tourism has no place in the Philippines,” pahayag ni Villanueva.
Ayon kay Villanueva sa nasabing MOA, mag tayo sila ng PDEA Tourism Operation Protection Against Illegal Drugs (PDEA TOP AID).
Layon ng nasabing programa na paigtingin ang anti-drug efforts sa mga nasabing lugar lalo na at mas marami na ang magtutungo sa mga tourist destinations areas matapos luwagan ang alert level status. Aminado rin si Villanueva na ang mga tourist destinations ang siyang tradisyunal na target ng mga drug trafficking groups dahil tini take advantage nila ang ready market lalo na ang mga banyagang turista na may kakayahan.
“Among the key aims of PDEA TOP-AID is setting up of assistance and complaint desks geared toward drug trafficking concerns, increasing law enforcement visibility to deter potential violators, encouraging support from stakeholders in the tourism sector, and improving coordination between DOT and law enforcement personnel, ” pahayag ni Villanueva.Write to Analy Montano
