Aprubado na ng Philippine Navy at Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) ang panukalang konstruksyon ng detachment ng Navy sa Fuga Island sa Aparri.
Mismong sina Navy Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad at CEZA chief executive officer Raul Lambino ag lumagda sa kasunduan para magtayo ng base ang Philippine Navy sa naturang isla.
Kung maaalala, ilang Chinese businessman ang nagpahayag ng interes na magtayo ng negosyo sa naturang isla.
Ayon kay Empedrad, maging hudyat sana ang kasunduan para mapalawig ng Navy ang kanilang mandato na protektahan ang mga teritoryo at karagatan ng bansa.
“Through the memorandum of agreement we have just signed today… the Navy and CEZA can indeed accomplish more as we mutually enhance each other’s capacity to perform our respective mandates,” ayon sa Navy official.
Pareho rin ang sentimyento ni Lambino na umaasang mapo-protektahan ng Navy ang naturang bahagi ng Hilagang Luzon.
“The geographical configuration of our country requires an active Philippine Navy. As a Filipino and as an Ilocano together with Vice Admiral [Empedrad] we are going to make Northern Luzon an area where the Philippine Navy can be most effective in protecting our country and our people,” ani Lambino.
