Bagama’t nangibabaw umano ang hustisya sa naging hatol ng hukuman, nainiwala ang Malacañang na nailantad ang mga seryosong depekto ng Philippine justice system sa Maguindanao massacre case na kailangang ituwid.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, inabot ng 10 taon bago naibaba ang hatol ng korte kung saan 56 ang napawalang-sala at 10 taon ang nasayang sa kanilang buhay habang nakakulong, maliban pa sa dinanas ng kanilang pamilya.
Ayon kay Sec. Panelo, tinitiyak nilang may gagawin sila para maisaayos ang justice system sa bansa para maiwasang maulit ang ganitong “injustice” umano sa mga acquitted.
Inihayag ni Sec. Panelo na pangunahing dahilan ng depekto ang paghahain ng kaso sa korte kahit pa kulang ang iniharap na ebidensya sa piskalya at hindi makakakuha ng “conviction beyond reasonable doubt.”
“While the rule of law has prevailed following Thursday’s promulgation by the trial court on the case of the Maguindanao massacre, the Palace notes that there are serious flaws in our justice system long existing and must be rectified, if we are to be fealty to the rule of law and due process as enshrined in our Constitution,” ani Sec. Panelo.
“The hasty and heedless filing of an information is due either to the faulty appreciation of evidence by — or the fear of — the investigating prosecutor to be subjected to an administrative sanction or get a reprisal from the complainant if the case is dismissed at the preliminary investigation stage,” dagdag ni Sec. Panelo.
