Bibigyan ng Congressional Medal of Excellence ng Kamara si Hidilyn Diaz dahil sa makasaysayang panalo nito ng kauna-unahang gintong medalya para sa Pilipinas sa Olympics.
Ito ang unang pagkakataon na magbibigay ang Kamara ng naturang award makalipas inihain nina Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez at Minority Leader Joseph Stephen “Caraps” Paduano ang kanilang House Resolution No. 2041.
Sinabi ni Velasco na ang panalo ni Diaz ay nagsisilbing inspirasyon para sa mga Pilipino, lalo na sa mga batang babae at atleta.
“It was indeed one of the proudest moments to be Filipino. And for that, your kababayans are forever grateful. Maraming, maraming salamat, Hidilyn!” ani Velasco.
“Hidilyn Diaz’s fighting heart and indomitable spirit has ignited hope and dreams in our country reeling from the current pandemic and economic downturn by bringing honor and pride to all Filipinos, whether in the country or abroad,” dagdag pa nito.
Inihain din nina Velasco ang House Resolution No. 1981 para naman i-institutionalize na ang paggawad ng Congressional Medal of Excellence sa mga national athletes na mananalo ng gold medal sa Olympic Games.
“This award will immortalize their achievements and give them a legacy to leave behind by providing future generations with inspirational lessons that they can take to heart”.
Sa ngayon, dalawang congressional medals ang ibinibigay ng Kamara: Congressional Medal of Distinction at Congressional Medal of Achievement.
Ang Congressional Medal of Distinction ay ibinibigay sa mga Filipino achievers sa larangan ng sports, business, medicine, science, at arts and culture.
Ibinibigay naman ang Congressional Medal of Achievement sa mga political, economic, at cultural leaders, na may malakiong ambag sa lipunan.
