MANILA – Lumagda ng kasunduan ang Pilipinas at Amerika para mapalawig pa ang pag-aaral ng dalawang bansa sa sakit na tuberculosis (TB).
Ayon sa Department of Science and Technology (DOST), pumirma ng memoradum of understanding ang Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) at US-National Institutes of Health.
Kabilang daw sa nilalaman ng kasunduan ang paglulunsad ng Regional Prospective Observational Research in Tuberculosis (RePORT) Consortium sa Pilipinas.
“The signatory for the US-NIH in this agreement is Dr Anthony Fauci,” ayon sa DOST.
Bukod sa US-NIH, may pinirmahan ding kasunduan ang DOST-PCHRD at Massachusetts General Hospital, na para naman sa research programs ng priority areas ng health sector.
Kasali sa mga research program na makikinabang sa pinirmahang kasunduan ang dalawang TB projects na tatlong taon nang ipinapatupad sa University of the Philippines at De La Salle University.
Kamakailan sinabi ng Department of Health posibleng umabot sa 100,000 Pilipino ang mamamatay sa susunod na limang taon kung mananatiling apektado ang access ng publiko sa TB services.
Ayon pa sa World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB report noong 2020, Pilipinas ang may pinakamataas na TB incidence rate sa Asia.
Ibig sabihin, mayroong 554 na kaso sa kada 100,000 populasyon.
“By the end of 2020, approximately 268,816 new and relapse TB cases were notified to DOH, a 35% decrease from 2019 data,” ayon sa DOH.
“A modelling study by the Imperial College of London projected between 65,100 to 146,300 TB deaths may happen if local TB services remain limited in another year.”
Nilinaw ng Health department na nagagamot ang sakit na TB. Libre rin daw ang access sa mga gamot nito sa buong bansa, sa ilalim ng programa ng pamahalaan.
