Nananatiling mas mababa ang bilang ng mga tinamaan ng sakit na leptospirosis ngayong taon kumpara noong 2019, ayon sa Department of Health (DOH).
Batay sa datos ng DOH, nasa 1,070 ang total ng leptospirosis cases sa bansa as of November 14. Mababa ito ng 66% mula sa 3,140 leptospirosis cases sa parehong petsa nang nakaraang taon.
“Even with most cases belonging to Metro Manila, the number of cases recorded this year
compared to last year is still significantly lower (~60+%) compared to the previous year.”
Mababa rin ang case fatality rate o bilang ng mga namatay dahil sa sakit na ngayon ay nasa 12% o 125, mula sa 332 leptopirosis deaths noong 2019.
Ilang lugar sa bansa ang nakapagtala ng leptospirosis cases na lagpas na epidemic threshold. Kabilang na dito ang Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Northern Mindanao, Cordillera at Metro Manila.
“Of the 228 reported Leptospirosis cases from October 12, 2020 to November 14, 2020, most reported cases were from the province of Metro Manila (63.28%), Camarines Sur (17.7%), Rizal (17.7%) and Cebu (10.4%).”
“Incidence rates were highest in Region II at 4.7 followed by CAR at 3.0 per 100,000
population. Despite that, case fatality rate in Region II and CAR are lower compared to other regions.”
Mula Enero, 170 leptospirosis cases daw ang na-admit sa National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI). Pero sa huling report ng ospital, 96 na pasyente ng sakit ang na-admit noong November 12.
Sa ngayon may 30 pasyente rin ng leptospirosis ang naka-admit sa gymnasium ng NKTI matapos buksan ng ospital ang bahagi ng pasilidad para sa mas maraming pasyente.
“As of December 12, 12MN, NKTI still have 88 cases admitted, 7 of these are still at the
ER, while 58 are on dialysis. NKTI has recorded a total of 170 cases since January 1, but
there were 96 total admissions since Nov. 12.”
Ayon sa Health department, nakapag-pwesto na sila ng mga gamot at supplies sa mga ospital at health centers dahil sa inaasahang pagtaas ng leptospirosis cases dulot ng magkakasunod na bagyo.
“With the onslaught of the recent typhoons, we already prepared for the possible increase in the number of leptospirosis cases in our hospitals. We’ve prepositioned the necessary medicine and supplies to be able to adequately address any possible rise in cases.”

exposed to floods, please secure proper medication or prophylaxis from your local
barangay health stations. If symptoms arise, consult with a physician immediately.”
