Kumpiyansa ang Department of Health (DOH) na naihanay na nila sa criteria ng World Health Organization (WHO) ang mga requirements para makapagsagawa ng clinical trials sa bansa ang mga bakuna laban sa COVID-19.
“Tayo ay nakapag-fulfill na nitong mga sinasabing kondisyon ng WHO para maumpisahan natin ang clinical trial dito sa bansa,” ani Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Ayon sa opisyal, naaprubahan na ng local experts ang clinical trial protocol kasabay ng pakikipag-negosasyon sa mga proponent ng trial. Mayroon ding hiwalay na vaccine expert panel ang bansa na sumusuri sa mga inire-rekomendang bakuna na pag-aaralan, at target sites na dumaan din sa masusing criteria.

“We are already starting to engage the local governments. The DOST and DILG already entered into this memorandum of agreement. Nakasaad diyan kung anong mga responsibilidad ng mga ahensya at LGUs as well.”
Ilan pa sa inihahanda ng DOH ang promotion at pagpapaliwanag ng target na clinical trial sa komunidad at pagbuo ng Data and Safety Monitoring Committee.
“Napaka-importante na we engage the community so that they will be informed of this trial that will happen. What would be the possible disadvantages or harmful effects of these vaccines and how it can benefit the community.”
“Tayo ay naghahanda na as we wait for WHO to announce the trial sites, when really the start of clinical trials. We are finalizing actually our preparatory activities so that when WHO signals na mag-uumpisa na tayo we are all ready for these trials.”
Ayon kay Dr. Socorro Escalante ng WHO, pinaka-konsiderasyon nila sa pagpili ng mga bansa para mag-host ng Solidarity Trial ay yung may ongoing na transmission ng COVID-19 at intensyon ng mismong estado na sumali sa malawakang eksperimento.
“WHO does not select the countries where the Solidarity Trial is going to be undertaken, the process is for WHO to invite countries to participate in the Solidarity Trial.”
“Of course there are certain basic criteria that will have to be considered including the situation wherein there must be some ongoing transmission of COVID-19.”
Una nang sinabi ng WHO na sa huling linggo ng Oktubre target masimula ang kanilang inisyatibo na trial sa COVID-19 vaccines.
