The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) mentioned the important contributions of barangay officials to disaster resilience and sustainable development of the country.
According to Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, disaster resilience does not have a natural constituency and the resilience of the response also depends on each barangay and communities.
The DENR’s Barangayan Para sa Kalikasan and Bayang Matatag forum also coincides with the Philippine’s preparations for hosting the 2024 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in October 2024.
Loyzaga said the barangays, are the smallest administrative units in the country but are also the most important in terms of disaster risk reduction.
He said the DENR seeks to have a shared understanding of risk and resilience to better frame its strategies, programs, and investments.
The project implements skills and programs in environmental protection, climate action, and disaster risk reduction through the initiative of the DENR that engages the entire society in the implementation of programs focused on poverty alleviation, environmental protection, response to disaster and the strengthening of public-private partnerships.
