The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is set to launch a shorter master’s program starting next week.
This is to address the shortage of teachers in nursing schools. CHED Chairperson Prospero de Vera III admitted that there is currently a shortage of qualified teachers in nursing schools because they need to obtain a Master’s degree in nursing before they are allowed to teach in institutions.
However, the problem is that nursing professionals with Master’s degrees are also being recruited in other countries. The shorter Master’s program is intended for those who wish to teach nursing in schools to further increase enrollment in the nursing program.
Earlier this year in March, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered CHED to address the shortage of nurses in the country due to their migration to other countries in exchange for higher salaries.
