MANILA – Tinatayang 83 Pilipinong registered nurses sa Estados Unidos ang namatay dahil sa pandemic na coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Ito ang report ng US National Nurses United matapos ang isang taon mula nang pumutok ang COVID-19 pandemic.
“As of Feb. 11, 2021, we find that at least 329 registered nurses and 3,233 health care workers, including these registered nurses, have died of COVID-19 and related complications while working in health care settings,” ayon sa NNU.
Mula sa 329 nurses na namatay, 314 ang mga nurse. 170 sa mga ito ang may ibang lahi, kabilang na ang mga Pilipino.
“83 (or 26.4 percent) of the 314 registered nurses, for whom race/ethnicity data is available, who have died of COVID-19 and related complications are Filipino. They make up 4 percent of registered nurses in the United States,” nakasaad sa ulat.
Naniniwala ang NNU na higit pa sa 3,200 na kanilang naitala ang bilang ng mga medical frontliners na namatay dahil sa COVID-19.
Inamin kasi ng grupo na ang ilan sa kanilang datos ay batay sa mga report ng media, obituaries, union memorials at federal at state reports.
“NNU believes many of these deaths would have been prevented if greater effort had been made to plan for and overcome the pitfalls of just-in-time supply chain management.”
“Scaling up the capabilities for the stockpiling and rapid distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) must be among the highest priorities of the hospital and nursing home industries and federal and state agencies going forward.”
