MANILA – Tinatayang 325,678 na manggagawa mula sa industriya ng tourism ang nakatanggap na ng cash assistance, ayon sa Department of Tourism (DOT).
Ayon kay Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, katumbas ng higit P1.628-billion na ayuda ang naipamahagi na sa tourism workers na apektado ng COVID-19 pandemic, as of April 28, 2021.
Bahagi raw ng DOT-DOLE Cash Assistance Program sa ilalim ng Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) ang pamamahagi ng ayuda sa naturang sektor.
Sa ilalim ng batas, may alokasyon na P2.327-billion para sa inaprubahang 465,530 tourism workers.
Kabilang na rito ang 39,429 mula sa National Capital Region; 26,908 sa Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR); 45,709 sa Ilocos region; 17,293 sa Cagayan Valley; 55,974 sa Central Luzon; 61,392 sa Calabarzon; 56,955 sa Mimaropa; at 11,468 sa Bicol.
Kasali rin ang 45,429 tourism workers sa Western Visayas; 31,712 sa Central Visayas; 13,327 sa Eastern Visayas; 6,609 sa Zamboanga Peninsula; 13,939 sa Northern Mindanao; 26,095 sa Davao region; 5,661 sa Soccsksargen; at 7,630 sa Caraga.
“We are hopeful that this financial assistance will provide some relief to our most affected stakeholders and tourism workers during these difficult times,” ani Sec. Puyat.
Sa ngayon nakabinbin pa ang distribusyon ng P699-million na halaga ng ayuda sa natitirang 139,852 approved applicants.
“While it may help in the short term, we believe that the best way to help stakeholders, in the long run, is to develop a tourism industry that is stronger, more resilient, and more adaptable to change,” dagdag ng kalihim.
