Mahigit 3,000 mga banyaga ang ipina-deport ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) noong nakaraang taon dahil sa paglabang ng mga ito immigration laws ng bansa.
Sinabi ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente na sa 3,219 na mga pinaalis sa bansa, 3,009 dito ang mga Chinese nationals.
Kabilang din dito ang 60 Vietnamese, 40 Koreans, 25 Americans, 20 Japanese, 12 Indians at limang Pakistanis.
Ayon kay Morente, agad namang inilagay sa blacklist ang mga banyaga at pagbabawalan nang pumasok sa teritoryo ng bansa.
Karamihan daw sa mga deportees ay naarestong walang kaukulang permit, sangkot sa mga hindi otorisadong online gaming operations, telecommunications fraud, economic crimes, investment scams at cybercrime activities.
Samantala, noong Disyembre 22 mayroon umanong 276 aliens ang nanatili pa ring nakaditine sa BI detention facility sa Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City na naghihintay ng deportation.
“We have arrested big batches of aliens in the past years through joint operations of BI operatives with other local law enforcement agencies,” ani Morente.
Pero ayon sa BI chief, dahil na rin sa Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, mas mababa ang mga na-deport noong 2020 kumpara noong 2019 na mayroong mahigit 6,000.
“This was a result of travel restrictions imposed by the government, wherein very little number of aliens were able to enter the country,” dagdag ng BI chief.
Pina-deport ang mga banyaga matapos lumabas sa imbestigasyon ng three-man BI Board of Commissioners na guilty ang mga ito sa ilang immigration offenses gaya ng overstaying, pagtatrabaho nang walang kaukulang permit, illegal entry at sa pagiging undocumented.
“Some of them are wanted fugitives whose arrest and deportation was sought by governments of the countries where they have been charged or convicted for various crimes,” wika ni Morente.
