Kinondena ni Pinoy Workers Party-list Rep. Karl Fernandez Legazpi, ang pagkamatay ng dalawang Ateneo student-athletes.
Nagpahayag ng pakikiramay ang mambabatas sa pamilya, mga kaibigan, at komunidad ng Ateneo matapos ang pagpanaw ng student-athletes na sina Divine Adili at Rene Clert Baterbonia sa isang team-building activity sa Aurora.
Ayon kay Legazpi, malaking kawalan sa kanilang pamilya, paaralan, at sa Philippine sports ang pagkamatay ng dalawang kabataang atleta na may maliwanag sanang kinabukasan.
Bilang dating Commissioner-at-Large ng National Youth Commission at kasalukuyang Vice Chairperson ng House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, iginiit niya ang kahalagahan ng kaligtasan, pangangalaga, at pananagutan ng mga institusyong humuhubog sa mga kabataang atleta.
Aniya, dapat magsilbing aral ang trahedya upang mapalakas ang mga proteksiyon para sa student-athletes at maiwasan na maulit ang kaparehong insidente sa hinaharap.
“ The goal is not merely to determine the circumstances of this particular tragedy, but to ensure that no other family has to endure the same loss. If this tragedy can happen in one of the country’s most respected educational institutions, then it is incumbent upon us to examine whether sufficient protections exist for student-athletes nationwide. We owe it to Divine and Rene, and to every young Filipino athlete, to learn from this loss and pursue meaningful reforms,” pahayag ni Rep. Fernandez.
