Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Ralph Recto has denied rumors that he will replace Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin in his position.
This follows reports that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to remove Bersamin from his post, with Recto being among the top names rumored to take over.
In an interview before the start of the budget plenary debates, Recto insisted that he will remain as DOF secretary.
“There is no offer. My marching orders today is Department of Finance. It has always been in the DOF,” said Recto.
He said that there has been no offer made to him, and therefore there is no position for him to accept.
“There is no offer, there’s nothing to accept,” he added.
The secretary also said he has no knowledge of any Cabinet revamp or changes in the Marcos administration’s Cabinet.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Senator Win Gatchalian expressed hope that Recto would stay on as DOF secretary.
He said he knows the secretary as “multi-talented,” a businessman, and knowledgeable in finance, and he hopes Recto will not leave his post until the end of the President’s term.
