Pinabibilisan ni Ang Probinsyano party-list Rep. Ronnie Ong ang paglabas ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) ang pagbuo ng guidelines para sa pagpayag sa pag-angkas sa motorsiklo ng mga mag-asawa at magkakapamilya sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Iginiit ni Ong na hindi dapat kasama ang mga mag-asawa at magkakapamilya na magkasama naman sa bahay sa social distancing protocols sa mga motorsiklo.
Kaya inirekominda nito na maglabas na lamang ang IATF-EID ng special identification cards o exemption passes para sa mga mag-asawa at magkakapamilya na magkakasama kung bumiyahe.
“I’m really happy that the IATF-EID finally saw some sense into our position on this back-riding issue for motorcycles. While it is true that it is nearly impossible to observe social distancing on motorcycles, it is also true that there is really no need for social distancing among couples and family members. Wala naman talagang nagaganap na social distancing ang mga magkakasama sa bahay,” ani Ong.
Base sa IATF Resolution number 47 na inilabas noong Hunyo 19, inatasan ang mga ahensya ng pamahalaan na bumuo ng panuntunan para matiyak na naipapatupad at nasusunod ang COVID-19 minimum health standards sa mga back-riders at drivers ng motorsiklong ginagamit bilang public transportation.
Ayon kay Ong, dapat bilisan ang pabalangkas ng guidelines na ang pangunahing objective ay bigyan ng ligtas pero accessible mode ng transportasyon ang publiko sa gitna ng pandemya.
“Despite the move to finally allow city buses and modern jeepneys to operate, there is still a huge gap in terms of capacity and accessibility of these modes of public transport. We should allow people to ferry their family members on motorcycles to reduce the demand for the buses and jeepneys,” ani Ong.
“Every day, we see a lot of stranded people on the streets because there is really a big gap on the capacity of these buses and jeepneys. We would definitely bridge the gap if we finally allow motorcycle back-riding among couples and family members,” dagdag pa nito.
