MANILA – Naglaan ng P80-million ang Department of Agriculture (DA) bilang suporta sa development at produksyon ng mas murang Filipino-made test kits para sa African swine fever (ASF).
Ayon kay Agriculture Sec. William Dar, manggagaling sa National Livestock Program (NSLP) at Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) ang pondo para maipamahagi sa mga lokal na pamahalaan ang “ASFV Nanongold Biosensor” test kit.
Maglalaan din daw ng pondo ang kanilang Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), sa pamamagitan ng partnership nito sa iba’t-ibang institusyon at eskwelahan.
Ang nasabing test kit ay dinevelop ni Dr. Clarissa Yvonne Domingo ng CLSU, kasama ang BAI.
“We commend the team from the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in partnership with the DA’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) who developed the ASF rapid test kit,” ani Dar sa isang press statement.
May kakayahan umano ang test kit na ma-detect ang pagkakaiba ng ASF virus at iba pang sakit ng mga alagang baboy tulad ng hog cholera.
Ayon sa Agriculture department, kayang makita ng locally-developed test kit ang presensya ng ASF virus kahit manggaling ang samples sa pig barns o babuyan, delivery trucks, at iba pang specimen sample.
“The rapid test kits utilize nucleic acid-based test. It has a built-in DNA extraction and molecular amplification process that utilizes primers or markers, whose gene sequence was designed from the P72 gene of the ASF virus isolated from the province of Rizal.”
Inatasan na ng kalihim si Usec. for Livestock William Medrano na makipag-ugnayan sa mga state universities and colleges, at pharmaceutical companies para maramihang produksyon ng test kits.
“The CLSU-BAI team will soon acquire robotic equipment to efficiently mass-produce the test kit,” ani Usec. Medrano.
Inaasahan ng kagawaran na sa pamamagitan ng bagong test kit ay mapapalakas pa ang kanilang pagbabantay, lalo na sa “ground-zero” areas.
Maaari rin daw itong gamitin sa mga port of entries bago pumasok sa bansa ang mga inaangkat na karne.
Nagkakahalaga ng P3,500 ang isang test kit na kasya para sa 10 samples. Kaya raw nitong maglabas ng resulta sa loob ng dalawa hanggang tatlong araw.
“For its part, the DA-BAI offers free ASF testing, while private laboratories charge about P3,000 per test.”
Bukod sa development ng locally-made ASF test kits, inatasan na rin daw ni Sec. Dar ang mga opisyal na asikasuhin ang clinical trial ng Vietnam-made vaccines dito sa bansa.
