The South Korean military reported that North Korea launched a ballistic missile on Tuesday into the Sea of Japan, one day after South Korea and the US started a significant military exercise.

The South Korean and US militaries claim that the Freedom Shield exercise aims to improve response capabilities in light of North Korean nuclear and missile threats.

The location from which the missile was fired, its range, and whether additional missiles were fired were all being confirmed by the South Korean military.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters in Tokyo that he hasn’t heard of any damage occurring in his country.

To recall, last thursday, North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile into the Yellow Sea from the western city of Nampo. On Sunday, the country fired submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles off its eastern coast, according to the country’s official media.
