Dr Anthony Fauci, a top infectious disease expert in United States, has expressed optimism that a vaccine to fight coronavirus disease will be ready on 2021.

He made the statement in front of the House of Representatives subcommittee on Friday where he said he is confident that a vaccine will be available by the end of this year or early 2021.

Fauci also suggested that an effective and safe way on distributing the said vaccine could be ready by 2021 however, a mass nationwide vaccination should not be expected right away.

There will be priorities laid out based on recommendations from scientific expert, says Fauci.

A potential vaccine being developed by the National Institutes of Health together with Moderna, a pharmaceutical firm in US, is already on its final stage of human trial.

Likewise with the vaccine developed by Britain and China.

The European Union has first announced that an agreement was made with Sanofi, a French drugmaker, to supply the bloc almost 300 million doses of vaccine. This will give the 27 EU member states an option to choose whether to avail it or not.

Meanwhile, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy formed a group to cooperate in procurring vaccines.

They have arranged for British pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca to provide up to 400 million doses of vaccines to EU countries at original cost.
