Tiniyak ni Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi na hindi makakaapekto sa supply ng langis ng bansa ang pagsasara ng Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) refinery.
“(This) will not affect the oil supply in the country as they will continue to fill in their market share through import of refined products.”
Iginagalang daw ng kalihim ang hakbang ng kompanya para makahabol sa kasalukuyang sitwasyon ng ekonomiya at merkado dulot ng pandemic.
Nakakalungkot lang umano na may mga maaapektuhang empleyado dahil sa permanenteng tigil operasyon na ng Shell refinery.
“What saddens me is the plight of the workers that will be displaced due to the closure. I hope they will find employment with the other industry players.”
Sa inilabas na statement ng kompanya, sinabi ng Pilipinas Shell na gagawin na nilang importation hub ang refinery site sa Batangas.
Kailangan daw kasi nilang palakasin ang kanilang asset portfolio dahil sa patuloy na pagbaba ng presyo ng produktong petrolyo.
“Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global, regional and local economies, and the oil supply-demand imbalance in the region, it is no longer economically viable for us to run the refinery,” ani Cesar Romero, ang presidente at CEO ng Pilipinas Shell.
Kung maaalala, noong Mayo nang unang mag-anunsyo ang kompanya ng temporary shutdown sa operasyon ng kanilang refinery sa Batangas.
