Ina-activate na ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang isang bagong yunit na nakatuon sa pagbibigay proteksyon sa bise presidente ng bansa.
Sisiguraduhin din ng Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) ang kaligtasan at seguridad ng pamilya ng bise presidente.
Ginawa ang activation ceremony sa AFP General Headquarters.
Iniluklok ni AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino si Lietenant Colonel Rene Giroy ng Philippine Army bilang unang Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) group commander.
Dati, ang isang Vice Presidential Security Detachment ay naka-attach sa Presidential Security Group.
Ang bagong nabuong VPSPG ay isa na ngayong hiwalay na yunit na pinamumunuan ng isang opisyal na may ranggong koronel o kapitan ng Navy.
