Sumakabilang-buhay na si Cynthia Barker, ang kauna-unahang Pinoy na naging alkalde sa England, sa edad na 58.
“It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of The Worshipful Hertsmere Mayor Councillor Cynthia Barker following a bout of serious illness,” pahayag ni Gene Alcantara, kapatid ni Barker, sa isang Facebook post.
Sinabi pa ni Alcantara, maglalabas sila ng dagdag na impormasyon sa susunod na mga araw.
Ngunit sa ngayon, humihiling muna ng privacy ang kanilang pamilya.
“We will be issuing further information in due course, but may we ask please to respect the family’s privacy at this very difficult time. Your prayers for the repose of her soul would however be welcome,” dagdag nito.
Si Barker ay naging kauna-unahang Pinoy na nailuklok bilang town councillor sa Elstree at Borehamwood noong 2015.
Muli itong nahalal sa Hertsmere para maging kinatawan ng Borehamwood Kenilworth noong Mayo 2019.
Naitalaga naman si Barker bilang mayor nito lamang Hunyo.
