The Philippine banking system remained sound, resilient, and well-capitalized in the first half of 2026, continuously fueling economic activity through steady lending to households and businesses.
In its Report on the Philippine Financial System for the First Semester of 2026, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) confirmed that bank capital and liquidity buffers stayed well above regulatory requirements.
The central bank noted that profitability was sustained and asset quality remained broadly manageable, even as financial institutions and borrowers adopted a more selective stance amid ongoing global and domestic economic uncertainties.
BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. affirmed that the banking sector maintains a strong position to fund local economic needs while accelerating financial inclusion through expanded digital channels.
This structural resilience is reflected in recent credit performance, with universal and commercial bank lending accelerating by 11.4 percent year-on-year in September 2026 due to robust demand in manufacturing, real estate, and consumer loans.
Remolona added that the central bank remains committed to fostering financial innovation while enforcing strict risk management, strong governance, and operational safeguards across foreign currency, trust, and digital operations.
Moving forward, the BSP continues to fortify its oversight framework through advanced analytics, regular stress testing, enhanced cybersecurity protocols, and supervisory technology to ensure long-term price and financial stability.
