Hinimok ng mga senador mula sa oposisyon si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na sibakin si Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon sa gitna ng posibleng pagkakalaya ni dating Mayor Antonio Sanchez dahil sa bisa ng batas sa good conduct time allowance (GCTA).
Sa isang statement, sinabi ni Sen. Risa Honteveros na hindi karapatdapat si Faeldon ng tiwala ng taumbayan.
Bagama’t makailang ulit na aniyang itinanggi ni Faeldon ang involvement nito sa posibleng pagkakalaya ng naturang alkalde, makikita naman sa release order ni Sanchez na may petsang Agosto 20 ang lagda ng opisyal.
“Faeldon looked at the Filipino people square in the face, and lied. That alone is reprehensible enough,” ani Honteveros.
“But the fact that he effectively coddled an unrepentant convicted rapist and murderer, turned a blind eye to Sanchez’s crimes while he is in prison and lied to the public, is a gross violation of the oath of office that all civil servants take.”
Binatikos naman din ni Honteveros si Faeldon dahil sa umano’y pagpapalaya din nito sa mga Chinese drug traffickets, na ayon sa Philippine Drug Enforcement Agencye ay hindi sumusunod sa tamang proseso.
Dahil dito, sinabi ni Honteveros na marapat lamang sibakin ng Pangulo si Faeldon dahil sa paglabag nito sa GCTA at dapat ding makulong.
Samantala, sinisi naman ni Sen. Leila De Lima si Pangulong Rordrigo Duterte sa naturang pangyayari dahil sa pagrerecyle lamang daw nito ng mga tiwaling opisyal.
Sa kabila ng mahigpit na kampanya kontra katiwalian, tila hindi na raw nakikita naman ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno na sangkot sa korapsyon.
“BuCor Director-General Nicanor Faeldon is just one of several Duterte appointees who are seemingly untouchable in spite of the more than a whiff of corruption associated with them. I need not name the others,” ani De Lima.
“Why can’t Mr. Duterte get rid of these incorrigible subalterns of his? Are they that indispensable? For what ends? What hold do they have on him?” dagdag pa nito.
