Iminungkahi ni House transportation committee chairman Samar Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento ang paggamit ng electronic (e-card) o beep card system bilang isa sa mga paraan para maresolba ang problema sa trapiko sa EDSA.
Sa isang statement, sinabi ni Sarmiento na bukod sa implementation ng organized dispatch system para matiyak ang matiwasay na transition ng mga bus sa loading at unloading zones, dapat ding magkaroon ng modernisasyon sa fare system sa mga bus sa EDSA upang sa gayon mas kaunting oras na lamang ang igugugol sa pagkolekta ng pamasahe.
Maari aniyang gawing machine-readable electronic cards ang national IDs na ipapamahagi sa pamamagitan ng National ID system para maipatupad ang kanyang iminumungkahing beep card system.
“Currently they are just thinking at a plain ID. It’s a waste of resources. Why not make it multi-purpose? Make it as a tap card. Make it function like a credit card or an ATM card and you can load money on it so you can use it as a tap card. You can use it as SSS, Pag-Ibig, and Philhealth card,” ani Sarmiento.
Iginiit din nitong mahalagang ipatupad ang beep card system sakaling magdesisyon ang gobyerno na i-organize ang mga bus companies sa isang consortium at pairalin ang synchronized bus dispatch system.
“Because of current multiple operators, its cost-inefficient to have that tap card system in place. If we have consolidated operations, then we will have enough volume to have that system,” saad nito.
