Pinayuhan ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ang mga Pinoy domestic helpers sa Hong Kong na sumunod sa curfew na pinatutupad ngayon ng karamihan sa employers ng rehiyon.

Ito’y sa gitna pa rin ng tensyon sa pagitan ng mga sibilyan at pamahalaan ng Hong Kong.

Ayon kay Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, ilang employers na raw ang nagpataw ng curfew sa day off ng kanilang mga kasambahay para hindi maipit ang mga ito sa rally na madalas nagiging tensyonado kapag gabi.

May ilan din umanong foreign recruitment agencies ang sumusundo sa kanilang employees sa airport para diretso hatid sa kanilang amo.

“Most of the domestic workers have curfew during their day off. Since the riots usually occur in the evening, workers are also advised to stay at home by the end of their working hours,” ani Bello sa isang pahayag.

Nilinaw ni Bello na walang penalty na ipapataw ang employers sa mga lalabag ng curfew.

Pero para sa kaligtasan ng mga Pinoy workers, mas mabuti umanong sumunod ang mga ito sa kanilang amo.

“It is the worker who is advised not to go out and the employers can’t do anything if they will not comply. But if something happens to them they can’t blame the employer and our labor officers.”

“They know what to do and what not to do. Now to protect our OFWs, particularly our household service workers, our Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)office advised foreign recruitment agencies to be vigilant and to ensure that a representative will pick up the worker upon arrival at the airport whether old or first-timer.”

“So far there are no serious incidents that warrant our consideration of a ban especially since we have to get a signal from the DFA.”
