Binigyang diin ng Department of Health (DOH) na hindi nila inirerekomenda ang paggamit ng anti-malaria drug na hydroxychloroquine bilang prophylaxis o treatment sa COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019).
Pahayag ito ng ahensya matapos irekomenda ng ilang eksperto ang paggamit sa naturang gamot para pagalingin ang mga pasyenteng tinamaan ng COVID-19.
“Chloroquine (CQ) or hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) for therapy or even when combined with a macrolide (e.g. azithromycin) or an antiviral agent (lopinavir-ritonavir, favipiravir) is not recommended).”
Partikular na ipinagbawal ng DOH ang paggamit ng nabanggit na gamot sa mga pasyenteng may probable o confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia; at mga outpatient na may early o mild virus.
Ayon sa Food and Drug Administration (FDA), natukoy na may safety issues ang hydroxychloroquine at chloroquine sa mga may komplikasyon sa puso kabilang na ang disorder sa blood at lymph systems.
Gayundin sa mga may injury sa kidney, problema at failure sa atay.

Kung maaalala, pinahinto ng World Health Organization ang paggamit ng hydroxychloroquine sa Solidarity Trials dahil sa nakitang hindi magandang epekto nito sa ilang ginamitan na pasyente.
