Magbubukas ang Department of Energy (DOE) sa susunod na taon ng aplikasyon para sa $170 million Philippine Geothermal Resource De-Risking Facility (PGRDF), na layong bawasan ang panganib at gastos sa geothermal exploration.
Nilagdaan ng DOE at Land Bank of the Philippines ang isang kasunduan upang ipatupad ang programa, na suportado ng pautang mula sa Asian Development Bank.
Layunin ng pondo na pabilisin ang pag-develop ng geothermal projects at palawakin ang malinis at lokal na pinagkukunan ng enerhiya sa bansa.
Ayon sa DOE, inaasahang mapapalakas ng PGRDF ang kapasidad ng geothermal energy at mababawasan ang pag-asa ng bansa sa inaangkat na fuel.
‘By de-risking exploration and enabling more projects to move from uncertainty to confirmation, we are widening the pipeline of investible geothermal opportunities, strengthening the resilience of our power system, and reducing our exposure to volatile imported fuel prices,’ pahayag ni Energy Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara.
