Ikinagalak ng Commission on Audit (COA) ang pagtalima ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) sa rekomendasyon nito kaugnay ng kanilang 2017 audit report.
Ayon sa COA, napabuti ng ahensya ang paghawak sa P6.8-bilyong halaga ng iligal na droga na kanilang nasabat sa nasabing taon, gayundin na pumasa ito sa ginawang pagsisiyasat ng state auditors.
Kung maaalala, pinuna ng komisyon ang PDEA noon dahil kulang sa safety measures ang kanilang storage facility ng mga nasasabat ng illegal drugs.
Hindi rin umano pinayagan ang auditors ng COA na silipin ang loob ng evidence room dahil sa pagiging sensitibo ng drug evidences.
Pero nang muli raw silipin ng state auditors ang ahensya, nabatid nagkaroon ng improvement matapos sundin ng PDEA ang kanilang rekomendasyon.
“The grant of access to COA personnel to a restricted PDEA facility is PDEA’s way of showing transparency. This is also showing transparency by destructing evidence in front of the public and witnesses including the media.”
“To ensure transparency with regards to pieces of evidence stored in the PDEA Evidence Room, PDEA conducts annual physical inventory of evidence where [police] personnel and [two National Bureau of Investigation] personnel are invited to do the inventory.”
